Recently on the news it was said that two teenagers jumped out of the burning house on to a trampoline from their window. The building in Northumberland Street was on fire at 3:43 in the morning. The Northumberland Street is in Higher Broughton. On the property there were two teenage girls who were stuck on the third floor. The smoke woke both the girls up.
The girls stayed calm even though most people would have paniced and they were guided to jump on to the trampoline by their neighbours. The trampoline was in the back garden. They avoided any serious injuries after jumping out of their window. They were still rushed to the hospital for a full check up. The ambulance service spokesman said that both of the girls avoided life threatening injuries and only suffered minor injuries to their neck, back and foot.
Fire service spokesman has urged people not to take these sorts of evasive action as this might cause some serious life threatening injuries. But not sure in that situation what is a person suppose to do, the fire can spread quickly and a person can basically die if they wait their for help and the help doesn’t arrive in time so breaking your legs and wrist in that situation is minor. This time the girls took the right decision as we can see both of them are fine.
Fire service spokesman also said that if there is no other way of getting out then taking this approach is absolutely valid but make sure you throw matress like materials to break your fall. It is important to minimise heavy fall as much as possible. Nowadays a lot of property have trampoline at their back yard 8ft trampolines to 12ft trampolines, I am not saying jump on them when fire starts. All I am saying is trampoline can come in handy as this incident tells you.
