Using Garden Pots As A Great Project For Kids

Children No Comments »

Have fun with your kids while doing something useful - container gardening! This will certainly help keep them from getting bored and they will love learning how to plant in garden pots. And, seriously, what could possibly be better than getting their little hands dirty while growing their own food. They might just be inclined to try some new foods they wouldn’t ordinarily try (I know this works since I saw it happen with my own 6-year old son.)

Containers

Let’s start off with the containers. Garden pots come in a wide variety of styles and materials they are made from, like clay, stone, wood, plastic, etc. For kids, the safest material to use is plastic - its lightweight and its pretty hard to break. The next best option is wood but wood containers are mostly used for decoration as they don’t hold water well and a plastic pot will have to be placed inside the wood container.

This is a really good time to have your kids decorate the pots. On both wood and plastic, acrylic paint works great. Be sure to use paints that are non-toxic. Once your child is finished, pick out a location now where you want the pot to go since it will be harder and heavier to move when its filled with soil.

The Potting Soil

I recommend that instead of using just your average dirt, use a good potting soil. They are specially blended for small containers and hold water (a great benefit since there is less maintenance). Getting your plants off to a good start is always a great idea and is easy if you use the proper nutrients. Check the guide on the side of the fertilizer bag for the recommended amount to use. Just don’t add too much as this could kill the plants.

Plants

Whether flowers, vegetables, or herbs, choosing your plants by type is an easy way to start. Once you have the type picked out, choose the size of plant appropriate to the size of your pots. Some plants will require larger pots (like tomatoes). You can always transplant them into larger pots if they get too big for the pot you started with. This is a great project for your kids (and YOU). They are sure to love seeing (and also eating) the fruits of their labor.

Encourage Pretend Play with Numerous Unique Toys

Children No Comments »

The majority of children enjoy pretend play at whatever age. Fortunately, there are plenty of age-appropriate objects that you can buy that encourage this hobby. Despite the technology-based toys that are now so common, the imagination is still alive and well, as is obvious by the fact that most children still love the traditional toys that mimic real objects. You should choose among the toys that enable pretend play, keeping in mind your child’s age and personal interests.

The traditional toys for girls include dollhouses with little dolls, larger baby dolls, and accessories that go along with both. Many girls swap between both sizes of dolls. A dollhouse typically includes small furniture, appliances, and clothes for the dolls. However, life-size baby dolls often come with even more accessories since they are larger and safer for young children. For example, if you get your daughter a doll, you can expect that she will want all the accessories for a real baby. You can buy a stroller, clothes, diapers, and fake food, all of which make pretend play more realistic, and thus more enjoyable for children. Luckily, many of the accessories available have several uses. One example is pretend food and fake dishes, which can be used both when playing with dolls and when having an elegant tea party.

Boys have many pretend play toys available to them, as well. Tiny cars, trucks, and train sets are pretty popular with boys of all ages. Some cars and trucks are simple and demand a lot of imagination, while others are remote-controlled or have wheels that actually push the vehicle a few feet when pushed in a backward motion. Any kind can be exciting to children, who typically put some imagination into anything they do. You can also get more unique regarding what you get them. For example, instead of buying the typical passenger cars or trucks, you can buy construction automobiles like dump trucks, big rigs, and bulldozers. Whatever gets their imagination running is typically best for any age group.

There are also numerous pretend play toys that are appropriate for either gender. Most girls and boys like dressing up. Halloween is not the one occasion on which children love to wear costumes. Most kids are okay with being a princess, firefighter, astronaut, surgeon, and more any night of the week. Buying costumes can be a fun way to promote some creativity, and to simply celebrate being a kid. Plus, they definitely can be reused, such as on Halloween, making this kind of pretend play inexpensive.

No matter the gender, age, or favorites of your children, pretend play is probably a major part of their lives. Promoting this custom is simple when you have various toys that encourage the use of imagination. Fortunately, there is a wide range of pretend play items on the market, permitting you to select the best products for your kid.

Some Tips On Enjoying A Holiday With The Kids

Parenting No Comments »

It’s always fun to get out and enjoy yourself with your family. Taking a trip together is a great way to get closer to one another and let loose. However, taking young kids can get stressful, since they can get needy and agitated during long drives or flights. Hopefully, this article will have some tips to help make your trip easier.

Long drives or trips on flights can be very boring for young children. Sometimes, they become so restless that they start screaming, crying, or doing something even worse. Always pack toys, games, books, and coloring pencils for the kids to enjoy while traveling. Don’t pack markers, your kids might end up drawing on your vehicle.

Pack some tasty snacks that the kids will enjoy. It’s important to give them something that’s good for them, but since it’s a trip, it’s okay to give them a sweet treat too.

It’s important to make stops during long drives. Before heading out, find out if there are any nice restaurants on the way, as well as fun activities to do and places to see. Also take note of public bathrooms.

Get each of your children a digital sport watch and make sure they wear them for the entire vacation. There might be a time when you decide to separate and they’ll need to know when to get back to your meeting point.

It might be a good idea to provide your children with cell phones. This will keep them connected to you at all times and the ability to call emergency services if necessary.

Make sure you pack tons of clothing for the kids. There’s no telling just how messy they’ll get while on holiday or if you’ll even have any access to a laundromat or a washing machine. If they always have clean clothes, your trip will be a happier one.

If sports and outdoor activities are on your itinerary, be sure to take the necessary equipment. Since safety is always important, always take protective wear, like padding and helmets. For skiing, try a Giro ski helmet. You may even be able to use that helmet for other sports.

Once the trip is over, you can all make a scrapbook together that includes all the memories you’ve made during your vacation. This will be fun for the whole family to do. Also, younger kids may enjoy making a Disney scrapbook.

Family vacations can end up being the most fun you and your kids have all year. Plan well and stay calm to make the most of it.

Models: Are They Geeky

Parenting No Comments »

So many people think that Sci-fi models like the Dr Who ones and models such as Star Wars and comic book ones are really geeky but is this true or something that is just ignorant?

The Models

If you really take time to look at the detail in some of the models out there you can so easily see why people buy them. The detail on some of the models is amazing and there is simply no doubt about that at all. From the RC cars that feature in the many Batman movies to the radio controlled helicopters that you see in films such as Avatar and Transformers.

The makers of the models spare no cost when they are putting in the detail to all of the models. Most of these makers actually make the plans for the models from the plans the creators use themselves which is often why such detail can be seen within all of them.

It is certainly true to say that models can be a bit geeky but this is only if you are filling up rooms full of them and you do not ever open them. If you like to have a couple of models from your favourite movies then I really cannot see a problem with this at all. If someone has a lot of rare models that are worth a lot of money I see this being a good thign rather than a bad thing. I cant think of anything better than the awesome car from Back To The Future that lights up and makes noises. 88 Miles Per Hour!

So there you have it, are models like RC tanks really that geeky or is it only if the person has loads of them? Does it matter what people are thinking if you are a collector of the models, you most likely could have a lot of money if you sold them.

Movies With Cars

Parenting No Comments »

There are many films out there that have high end crashes, sex, drugs and rock and roll, what about the car movies for kids.

Cars

This is Pixar’s attempt at looking into cars for the kids and this is based in a world populated by anthropomorphic vehicles. When Lightning McQueen falls off the back of a truck he is stuck in a dead in town and when he accidently wrecks the road he is made to stay behind and repave it all. He was actually on his way to win the piston cup and propel his career forward.

Noddy

Noddy has actually been in many feature films and has even had a play based on the stories that Enid Blyton came up with. Noddy is actually a wooden puppet and he ran away after his maker was developing a wooden lion. When Noddy runs into the woods and gets lost he meets his best friend for the first time, Big ears. Big Ears decides that Noddy is actually a toy so then decides to take him to his hometown of Toyland. Of course his car is his very famous red and yellow taxi and he helps the people of Toyland with this vehicle. Noddy drives around the town helping people out when his business is not doing great.

Transformers

This is the biggest one the list simply because Bay has turned this program into a huge film. Characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron existed long before the two smash hit films were released and of course the entire films are set around transforming, robotic cars.

For bad credit car leasing make sure you look into gap insurance as it can really help you out. Also look into cheap car leasing, as this is often the cheapest option out there.

Children In The Back Of A Car Are Annoying

Parenting No Comments »

We all know the drill, the weekend has arrived, you have a bit of time off in your new car leasing car and you find that you have to go out and take the kids somewhere. So what do you do if they start playing up in the background?

Journey

It all depends on how far you are going and the one thing to remember is time. If you are going on a very small journey then the best thing to do is wait until you get there, that way you do not waste time. The one thing that you must always pull over for is if they are throwing things in your direction this cannot be left.

On the other hand if it is a long journey you are planning, pull in on the first sign of trouble. Another thing you really do not want to happen is you will not want it to happen all of the time as it could put your family in danger.

People In The Car

If you are lucky enough to be travelling with someone, get them to deal with it. You need to explain that turning around to sort out all of the problems will cause serious trouble and could hurt everyone in the car. Just always try to get the person in the seat next to you to try and sort them out. Unless you can help it you really do not want to be pulling over every five minutes.

What If Things Get Out Of Hand?

One of the things that can be hard not to turn around for is if your child starts throwing up all over the place, then what are you going to do? Well the best thing to do is still to drive until you can pull over, never turn back to help them because that split second could turn into a terrible accident, yes the company car leasing will have puke in it but that’s that.

Of course you could always look into gap insurance.

Transformers- The Real Life Vehicles

Parenting No Comments »

With the recent films revitalising the series I thought it would be quite a cool idea to list some of the well known characters from the series and actually put down what vehicle they are in the real world.

Optimus Prime

Optimus prime is one if not the most famous transformer of all time simply because he is in charge of the famous Autobots. The most famous transformation that Prime has is the Semi truck and this is down to both the original series and the recent films. On top of this he has been seen before as a fire engine and various types of aircraft.

Megatron

This really wouldnt be worthy of being called a post on Transformers if I didnt include Megatron who is easily the best bad guy out there. These are usually the two that end up having the hige final battle at the end you would have seen this in the comic, cartoon and films. He has also taken many forms including a battle tank, Jet even a robotic T-REX.

Hot Shot

Hot Shot is the leader of the famous spy changers and he has worked alongside Prime for a long time. The spy changers are quite unique as they are able to actually walk across any surface that they want and disguise themself from anyone and anything. Hot Shots real life form is actually the Porsche 959.

Ironhide

Ironhide is one of the oldest bots out there and he again was part of the spy changers that helped out the Autobots against the Decepitcons. His real life form is actually a rather old Nissan one box cherry vanette which really does suggest that he is an older bot.

With this in mind I am almost certain that you would need some Gap insurance with the amount of money you would be paying off for one of these robots. Imagine the insurance costs from one of these! You would certainly need bad credit car loans if you owned one of these robots and a new car lease would be necessary.

Hearing Aid Options

Parenting No Comments »

Although suffering from deafness is something that no one wants to deal with there have been many advances in the types of hearing aid that you can actually get nowadays.

For The Kids

Kids often feel very uncomfortable around their friends because their hearing aids stand out in front of everyone and there of course now things out there that can change this. There are so many hearing aids out there that you can get that are very appealing to children. You can get the smaller kids things like ladybird hearing aids whereas the older ones can get things like headphone looking ones. The technology available to these things now are simply amazing and you can even hook up your MP3 through them which means you can get away with listening to music whenever you want.

Adults

There are many adults out there that refuse to get the treatment they need or get a hearing aid assessment simply because they feel a hearing aid will make them look old, this is not true as there are many varieties in the hearing aid for adults too. Earring hearing aids are something that have not been out too long but have come in very useful when it comes to women who are a bit deaf. The hearing aid simply looks like it is in the shape of an earring meaning that only you and your closest friends will know otherwise.

You should never be shamed to wear something like a hearing aid no matter what someone else says to you, never. If you do not then your hearing will only get worse and this is certainly something that nobody will want. Hearing aids Sussex is a great place to look for a custom made hearing aid so keep your eyes out for one that will suit you

Fun Things To Do With The Kids When They Are Bored

Parenting No Comments »

How often have you heard your kids say ‘Mom, I am so bored!’ or ‘There is nothing to do, Dad!’. Maybe the kids are trapped inside because it’s cold or rainy or they’ve been out of school for awhile and just need a distraction. Try one of the following ideas and plan a day the whole family will enjoy.

Tell the kids that you are going to have a pajama day. Have everyone stay in their sleepwear all day long. Have breakfast together and then spend a few hours playing board games. In the afternoon, pop some popcorn and watch a movie or two. Then in the evening, get out the sleeping bags and put them down in your living room. Turn out the lights and tell stories and have a family camp out right in your own home! You could even makes’ mores in the oven to add a camping touch to your evening.

Perhaps your child’s room needs to be given a new look. Take your child with you to a retail or home improvement store and let them choose a new color for their walls. After you choose the paint, visit the home decor accents department and pick out a new mirror or lamp. You can make just a couple of affordable changes to update their bedroom. Allow them to help paint their room. They may be so proud of the work they did that they will even keep their room clean for a little while!

Spend the day sorting through family photographs and make a scrapbook. Let your children use some of the photos to make some of the scrapbook pages. Let them create their page with stickers and allow them to do the page however they want to. While you are making the pages, ask your children to tell you what they remember about what is going on in the photos.

You could pretend you are visiting your area on vacation. Go to a local attraction that someone from out of town might visit. It can be a museum or art gallery that you have never been to or you could even visit you local city or state park. Pack a picnic lunch and let your children run and play. Maybe they will even meet a new friend!

Give your children some old socks and let them make sock puppets. Tell them to make up a puppet show and have them make their own props with colored construction paper. After dinner, let the children perform their play for the rest of the family.

There are a lot of different things you can do with your kids when they are bored. Use a little creativity to plan a special day that your kids will remember for a long time to come.

Parents Responsible for Lazy Children

Parenting No Comments »

Building of Outdoor Play Apparatus

As parents we are constantly reminded that it is our responsibility to encourage our youngsters to be active, to get exercise and not to lie around eating burgers while playing computer games. Many parents will probably agree that persuading their children to ignore their televisions and computer games can be impossible.

Last year I invested a significant amount of hard earned cash in a few pieces of outdoor play equipment, chosen by my two youngsters. They always enjoy a visit to the park where they can run around, swing on the swings, slide on the slides and climb the climbing frames. Unfortunately our nearest park is about 3 miles away so these visits are not as frequent as they or I would like. So I bit the bullet and shelled out quite a bit of money on a wooden swing slide playset and climbing frame which I put together whilst my wife was conveniently at the health spa.

Now I would like to report that my generosity has paid off and my children are now fit and active and can’t get enough of their new equipment. But that is far from the truth. Since I installed the equipment (which presented many headaches, took a lot of hammering and quite a bit of swearing) they have probably only played on it three times. Admittedly I didn’t get the equipment until the Autumn of 2009 and since then the weather has been appalling.

At least that is the reason they give when I try to convince them that they’d enjoy some outdoor fun. It’s too cold, they often say. Or they say ‘the swings are too wet to sit on’ when it’s been raining. I’ll be needing one of those spa treatments at this rate!

I’m hoping that, as we move into spring and the weather improves, they will naturally want to get out into the garden and get some much needed exercise on their new outdoor toys. I’m dreading another miserable, wet summer as this will result in my fat children just getting fatter instead of working off those excess pounds with a little outdoor adventure. Nobody ever said that being parenting was easy. Although the odd massage does go down well when it all gets a bit stressful
