A home security system doesn’t just keep your home and property safe, it also provides peace of mind. Statistics show that your home is three times more likely to be broken into if you have no security system.
There are several components in a home security system, including the control pad, magnetic switches, motion sensors, and of course the most important part – the alarm. You can go with wireless or wired switches and motion sensors.
If you have extra money to spend, you can go with systems with video cameras and personalized monitoring. You can feel even safer with monitoring, as this serves as manual support – the alarm company’s personnel would be the ones monitoring your home security system.
Home security systems have deterrent factors which can come in very handy. This stops potential burglars from breaking in, due to the sign that clearly says that the house is protected, or due to the alarm being activated as they try to do their dirty work.
These no good pieces of scum are sure to turn back and look for an easier house to break into, rather than risk getting caught by burgling a protected house.
Here are the five most important components that need to be present in every home security system:
Control Panel – The Brains Of The System
This is the control system for the alarm – the “brains” behind it. Ideally this would be located in one of your closets, or at the basement if you have one – you won’t need to use it that much.
Keypad
The second component is the keypad, usually found near your house’s main gate. It lets you arm and disarm the alarm, as well as control the various other components.
Magnetic contacts
As stated above, magnetic contacts are placed on the doors and will activate once broken, provided the alarm system is on.
Tracking Burglars With Sensors
You can choose between the more popular motion sensors, or go with body heat sensors for your alarm system. Once the system is armed, the sensors would trigger the alarm once it detects any motion (or heat) nearby.
Alarm
There are many varieties of burglar alarms, but all of them make loud noises, with some adding flashing lights to attract more attention.
