Reforms Make It Harder To Give Credit Cards To College Students

Children No Comments »

Due to the latest credit card alterations that are starting up next year, card issuers will have a strenuous time getting teenagers on college campuses to apply for credit cards without their parents’ knowledge. As students arrive on campus, card issuers will be there to meet them at many schools.

“Issuers will try to continue to market to college students between now and the time the legislation takes effect,” said Bill Hardekopf, chief executive of LowCards.com, a site that tracks cards. That means schooling them to budget and handle a checkbook and debit card in advance to having a credit card.

Card issuers main target goal are young adults because people tend to be attached to their first card, said Christine Lindstrom, U.S. Public Interest Research Group’s higher-education program director. Plus, young adults are more expected to carry revolving debt and pay late, creating more interest and fees for the card issuers, she said.

Card issuers also will necessitate a co-signers approval to increase credit limits of a cardholder younger than 21. And issuers won’t be permitted to offer T-shirts or trinkets to entice students. Some credit experts say students need a card to start building a credit history and score.

But there’s no need to rush this, and it can backlash if students mismanage cards. Young adults should worry less about their credit score and focus more on regulating good financial habits between ages 16 and 21, said Craig Watts, a spokesman for FICO, the company that created a broadly used credit score. “The credit score will take care of itself,” he says.

A survey published in April by Sallie Mae suggests that many young adults aren’t adept managers of credit. Undergraduates on average carried record card debt of $3,173, or 46 percent more than four years earlier.

Various schools, out of concern for students, don’t grant marketers to pitch cards on campus. After a few years of living on their own, paying bills and managing credit, they can apply for a credit card under their own name when they turn 21. Never co-sign, advises Janet Bodnar, author of “Raising Money Smart Kids.” Besides, she added, students are more likely to learn money skills if responsible for their own debt.

Parents Responsible for Lazy Children

Building of Outdoor Play Apparatus

As parents we are constantly reminded that it is our responsibility to encourage our youngsters to be active, to get exercise and not to lie around eating burgers while playing computer games. Many parents will probably agree that persuading their children to ignore their televisions and computer games can be impossible.

Last year I invested a significant amount of hard earned cash in a few pieces of outdoor play equipment, chosen by my two youngsters. They always enjoy a visit to the park where they can run around, swing on the swings, slide on the slides and climb the climbing frames. Unfortunately our nearest park is about 3 miles away so these visits are not as frequent as they or I would like. So I bit the bullet and shelled out quite a bit of money on a wooden swing slide playset and climbing frame which I put together whilst my wife was conveniently at the health spa.

Now I would like to report that my generosity has paid off and my children are now fit and active and can’t get enough of their new equipment. But that is far from the truth. Since I installed the equipment (which presented many headaches, took a lot of hammering and quite a bit of swearing) they have probably only played on it three times. Admittedly I didn’t get the equipment until the Autumn of 2009 and since then the weather has been appalling.

At least that is the reason they give when I try to convince them that they’d enjoy some outdoor fun. It’s too cold, they often say. Or they say ‘the swings are too wet to sit on’ when it’s been raining. I’ll be needing one of those spa treatments at this rate!

I’m hoping that, as we move into spring and the weather improves, they will naturally want to get out into the garden and get some much needed exercise on their new outdoor toys. I’m dreading another miserable, wet summer as this will result in my fat children just getting fatter instead of working off those excess pounds with a little outdoor adventure. Nobody ever said that being parenting was easy. Although the odd massage does go down well when it all gets a bit stressful

Quick Mobile Phones Reviewed

Children No Comments »

Motorola W230: Motorola has recently unveiled a new entry level mobile phone specifically targeted towards the Indian market the Motorola W230. The W230 is part of Motorola’s MotoYuva series, which highlights music capabilities more than anything else. It therefore comes with a pre-installed memory card worth 256 megabytes. It’s quite the far stretch from the usual 10 Mb that ships with most mobile phones with more features than this one, which is a pleasant surprise. What’s more, it is expandable to up to 2 Gigs that is enough for more or less 500 songs, should one choose to purchase and upgrade.

Motorola ROKR E8: The Motorola ROKR E8 is also known as Moto ROKR E8. It is a GSM or GPRS camera phone that has easy to use controls, which allow a quick transition from the phone to an MP3 player and to an imaging device. This phone has an interesting backlight touch keyboard, a two-megapixel camera with 262K-color display using QVGA, 2 GB of micro SD memory card, and an internal memory of 2 GB. The MOTO ROKR E8 also has a 3.5 mm jack for headphones and an FM radio.

Sony Ericsson W960: Once in a while, we, as consumers, witness partnerships of big name companies that offer us products that either fall short of expectations or thrill and delight us in many ways. Apparently, the cellular phone industry is not excluded from this trend. For most, if not all of us, the names Sony and Ericsson are brands that need no further introduction.

Sony Ericsson T270: Last January 24, 2008 in Delhi, India, the Sony Ericsson merger announced the launch of two new budget phones: The Sony Ericsson T270 and its big brother, the T280. They are a pair of affordable mobile phones with a definite flair for design. The similar looking phones are a pocket sized candy bar featuring a sleek brushed light metal with glass finish and comes in two color combinations; the Silver and Black and the sure to be a hit Copper and Silver combo. The only noticeable difference between the two is the absence of a camera lens at the back of the T270. But before you faint at the idea of a phone not having a camera - be aware first of the target audience of the T270, for it is definitely not a phone not for everyone.

Samsung L320: With the L320, Samsung unveils a sleek mobile phone with the female demography in mind. It is part of Samsung’s La Fleur collection which also includes the Samsung L310. Its design utilizes the smooth operating clamshell type blueprint with dual screens (OLED and TFT) which exudes femininity and modern metropolitan chic. The OLED display works as an external screen to allow quick viewing of information when the clamshell is closed. Once opened, the internal screen of 1.9 inches with up to 65k colors is revealed in all its 176 x 220 pixel glory. I’m guessing the clamshell body would be a definite hit among the female consumers as they can easily drop their mobile phones inside their purses or handbags among other things, without the need to purchase additional protective shells or silicone cases to keep their phones from getting nicked or scratched.

Exuberant And Prototypical: Toile Nursery Bedding Sets In Your Little Doll’s Living Space

General No Comments »

Pink toile baby bedding , which has been around since the 1700s has, yet again, become popular–this time over course of the last decade. The popularity of toile has surged recently as designers embrace the soft, nurturing effect it has on decorating.

Toile often features small traditional prints of old-fashioned country life, so it’s popular because it can bring a sense of serenity to any nursery. Ensembles for the nursery executed in toile include a host of exciting colors as well as theatrical parings of cream and espresso or exotic black and ivory to provide an aura of the dramatic.

Cautious parents wishing to make an elegant adobe for their new son will wonder why they didn’t choose toile sooner when they see the beautiful baby boy bedding set. You may have the impression that toile is too formal a material to use with a rural themed print, but on viewing the early American country scenes used in our little boy’s nursery sets, you will soon change your mind and come to love it.

If you generally tend towards contemporary decor, toile patterns can be a pretty and relatively unfussy departure for your son’s nursery. A new little prince can be welcomed with toile bedding designs that are often accented with satin bows and eyelet ruffles.

The trick is figuring out how to afford the nursery that you desire for your son. It’s easy to create a beautiful space for your son without breaking the bank. Even a preliminary online query will let those ready to shop know that it’s easy to find toile on a budget when looking for crib bedding.

Buying a well-coordinate crib set can be a great relief for many new parents. Such sets are surprisingly affordable and contain the basic nursery bedding for a little boy. Your job as nursery designer is made even easier by collections that include key extras like window valances.

Katie Price/Andre/Reid/ ? and Her Many Stories

Parenting No Comments »

Now that Katie Price has got hitched again I can already feel a new book coming out.

I have lost count of how many books she has already published. It is beyond my comprehension that she is only in her early 30’s and yet she has managed to bring out so many autobiographies. It’s strange as I always thought that your autobiography covered your whole life, not just a year or two.   Mind you I suppose she packs more into one of her years than most of us pack into a lifetime.   If you search through the non fiction books section in any bookshop you will be swamped with her books.   Nowadays due to her dwindling popularity I bet a lot of her books will be found in the bargain books section.

I can’t pass judgement on how good or bad her books are because in all honesty she doesn’t interest me in the slightest to even think about buying one of her books. In my humble opinion, I find her one of the most annoying women around. She is always doing some sort of magazine shoot and they aren’t always flattering. She comes across as a person who absolutely loves publicity, it doesn’t matter if its good or not.

In all honesty I do feel sorry for her kids.   I know that marriages break up, unfortunately nowadays that is a fact of life. However, if you believe everything you read about her in the papers, unfortunately her children do seem to get passed from one carer to another. It must be difficult for them to have any stability in their little lives?   I’m sure they don’t know whether they are coming or going, where they are spending the night and who with.

I didn’t realise that Katie has also written various childrens books.   Somehow I can’t imagine her tucking her kids in at night and reading them a bedtime story like most mums love to do.

Of course, my perception of Katie could be totally wrong and for all I know she could be a brilliant wife and mum. I think that the truth of the matter is we only see what Katie wants us to see, so do any of us know the true Katie

Making Sure That Your Child Is Healthy

Parenting No Comments »

When you start worrying about other people in your life like your child, you normally think about their safety and health most importantly. This can include making sure that they are warm and fed, happy and that they do not get hurt. You keep cough remedies in case they get sick and you give them their daily vitamins.

There are a lot of cough medicine out there in the market today. Most parent find it hard to decide which one to buy. This is because there are natural one, kids ones, adult ones and every other one in between. There are cough syrups that taste like honey, ones that taste like strawberry, and those that taste like chocolate, but are they all really good for you, and do they all work?

This is a question that most parents are asking, and you may well be one of them, and this is why so many parents pay the high prices of the doctors fees, because they just cannot make up their minds. Speaking of a lot of products, you will also find that there are a ton of anti aging products on the market these days.

You will find that this is a multimillion dollar industry, these companies are making a killing off the needs of others. Most people need to look younger than they are, and this is why they will go out to buy these skin treatment products.

With your family’s health comes the responsibility to teach them about how to look after themselves. It is all very well putting on the creams and giving them their medicine, but if you don’t teach them about the dangers of chemicals in products, they will never know.

You will also find that not all products, even though they work, will work for you. You have a different skin type of other people, and you cannot use a product that work for your friend on your skin and hope that is going to work for you

You have to do your research before you stick to a product, or even before you go out to buy a precuts. There is no way that they can make a product for skin that is going to work for all skin types, because we all have different enzymes in our skin.

Trapped In Depression ?

General No Comments »

The words “I’m depressed” became very common among many people as an answer to the question about their well being, including the intention for only describing a bad mood or when something goes wrong. Every person feels depressed every once in a while, but feeling of depression and depression illness are two different situations that should be distinguished.

With science and technology progression, new medications came into the market to treat this difficult problem, which seems to be accelerated by every passing second. Medications have an important role in certain depression cases.

Depression is a very real and treatable illness. Depression is just about the loneliest experience in the world. Depressed people, who are often poor communicators place more demands on a marriage with their greater need for caring and support and end up in unhappier marriages. Depression affects teenagers, pensioners and everyone in between; married people, single people, rich and poor. clinical depression affects 15% of the population, and a third of all women.

Depression is a serious medical illness that involves the brain. It’s more than just a feeling of being “down in the dumps” or “blue” for a few days. If you are one of the more than 20 million people in the United States who have depression, the feelings do not go away. Depression can occur for what seems like no reason at all or can be triggered by a traumatizing life event within a person’s life.

Although a low mood or state of dejection that does not affect functioning is often colloquially referred to as depression , clinical depression is a clinical diagnosis and may be different from the everyday meaning of “being depressed.” Many people identify the feeling of being clinically depressed as “feeling sad for no reason”, or “having no motivation to do anything.” One suffering from depression may feel tired, sad, irritable, lazy, unmotivated, and apathetic. Clinical depression is generally acknowledged to be more serious than normal depressed feelings.

Depression is the most common disease among adults, there are several disease levels, starting from light situation to “Major depression”, characterized by suicidal thoughts and high risk of self-damaging. “Major depression” exists in about 10-20 precent out of world population, twice as much amidst women in comparison to men. This acute illness requires a professional intervention.

Depression may occur only once in a person’s life. Social conditions like poverty, homelessness, and community violence can make it more likely for people to become depressed. Two hallmarks of depression - symptoms key to establishing are Loss of interest in normal daily activities. Depressed mood. You feel sad, helpless or hopeless, and may have crying spells. Depression symptoms are characterized not only by negative thoughts, moods, and behaviors, but also by specific changes in bodily functions (for example, irregular eating, sleeping, crying spells, and decreased libido).

It is certainly recommended to allow the body to treat the problem naturally. There is so much to do, so many ways to tune the body back in balance and heal it. Depression is only a symptom, it is a sign that something went out of balance, and it is the way that the body tells us that it deals with something.

Toy Boxes

Children No Comments »

Keeping children’s toys in order can be a real pain, especially if you have more than one child, any parent of toddler aged children will tell you this. Toys tend to get spread all over the house and into a total mess, this is why good storage is needed. Whilst shelves can be useful they can also look very untidy if toys are crammed onto them. With this in mind toy boxes are a really good storage option and there are many different styles to choose from, such as:

One type of box for toys is the traditional wooden box. These can come in a range of different sizes and some have the child’s name carved into them. Many people who want a traditional look to their child’s room opt for this type of box.

Stacking boxes - boxes that stack can be really useful for storing toys in. They come in a wide variety of different colors and are very durable. Due to this they are a good choice for younger children who tend to be a little more heavy handed with boxes.

Children who are into certain cartoon characters love to have boxes with them on. These boxes are especially good if the child’s room is decorated in the same theme. In fact most children like to have these types of boxes as they are fun and great to look at.

Another type of box that can be used for another purpose are boxes with cushioned seats on the top. Not only can these be used to store toys safely they are also ideal if the child’s bedroom is quite small. This type of box can also be used in other rooms to add extra seating for parties and so on.

Knowing a few of the different styles of toy boxes comes in helpful when you are choosing one for your child’s toys. So opt for something that will not only be the right size but that is made from the right material. After all it is important that a toy box lasts a long time and is durable enough to cope with even the roughest child.

Don’t know much about toy boxes? A toy box is what you need for any room of your house. You can buy all sorts of storage solutions to keep your house organized!

Are Your Kids Getting Enough Sleep?

Parenting No Comments »

Sleep is when babies grow and bodies rest. As a parent it can be difficult to know how much sleep your child needs. They may seem cranky, but won’t go down for a nap. They may stall their bedtime or stay up very late and still get up at 6 am. Just because their bodies require a certain amount of sleep each day does not mean that children will get all the sleep they need. It’s important for you to help them get the amount of sleep they need. The only way to do this is to know how much they need. The following is a look at what the American Pediatric Association says about how much sleep kids really need.

Between Birth-Six Months children need 16-20 hours. They are going to sleep off and on all day and night. They do not know the difference and are not old enough for a schedule.

Between Six-Twelve Months children need 14-15 hours. They should be able to sleep through the night at this stage. You should be working on getting them on a schedule. They should take 3 naps a day, and have one long stretch at night. This is the stage where you want to teach them to fall asleep on their own, so it’s okay to let them cry themselves to sleep.

Between Ages 1-3 children need 10-13 hours. By this age your child should be taking a couple naps a day and sleeping all night. They should have consistent nap times and bedtimes. They should be falling asleep on their own in their own beds. Now is the time to establish a bedtime routine.

Between Ages 3-10 children need 10-12 hours. You should expect them to stop napping around age 5 and to start trying to stall their bedtime during this stage. They should not be indulged when they try to stall bedtime. Continue to follow the bedtime routine you have established. It is unlikely your child will develop any new sleep problems in this phase. If you established good habits early they should carry over. Just keep their bedtime consistent.

Between Ages 11-12 children need about 10 hours. They won’t take naps and will procrastinate bedtimes. Try to have them in bed by 9 so there is ample time to get the 10 hours they need.

Teenagers need about 9 hours of sleep per night. They usually have later curfews and will tend to make up for lost sleep by napping or sleeping in if positive sleep habits are not enforced. Help them continue to get the sleep they need by establishing rules for iPod and cell phone use at night.

Growth and mood are both closely tied to the amount of sleep a child gets. Know what to expect as far as growing out of naps and how much sleep your child needs. Try to get your kids to bed between 7-9 with the expectation that they will wake between 6-8 the next morning. Do not indulge bad sleep habits and your child will never form them.

Understanding a Child’s Stresses and Anxieties

Parenting No Comments »

As a parent it is important that we understand what potential problems our child has. Most children have certain things that they worry about or even fear. In this article, I write about the types of fears that this might be and about how we can help our children to cope and to get through life in the best possible and stress-free way.

I am by now a child social worker and what I write within this article is just my own personal opinion. I actually offer a web promotion service; I am also involved with a company that enables people to make cheap phone calls and on a weekend I help out at a local DVD authoring firm - rather busy as you can see!

Many children are able to pick up on what their parents are worrying about. They may hear arguments about money and can then start to worry themselves about the financial situation their family may be in. I am a parent myself and try where possible to only discuss serious issues with my partner when the children are out or are asleep. If I believe that one of my children has overheard a conversation which I would have rather they hadn’t, I then talk to them to attempt to reassure them that everything is OK.

Children may also worry that their parents may break up and that they will end up living apart. They will no doubt hear that this has happened to their friends and may wonder and stress about how their lives would change if this happened to them.

My children have told me that they worry and that they fear that one of their parents may die in the near future. It is quite difficult to explain to them that this is unlikely to happen as it obviously could. I try and laugh it off which may not be the best policy, by stating that I am still very young and that I have no plans to leave this planet in the near future. I explain to them the age that the average male will live to in our country and that normally, I hope, makes them feel better.

School can be another area of stress for some children. Will they be able to cope and understand the work? Will they be able to obtain a good examination mark and a good report? Will they be able to make their parents proud of them? I have told my own children not to worry about these issues and to just try their best.

Socialising and meeting friends can also bring its own tensions. I am sure that we all remember our own childhoods and the fact that we regularly break friends but that we normally, eventually, make up again. It can be quite stressful when friends have a disagreement or argument. When this happens to my children, I make a point of saying that it has been the fourth time in a month that you and Amy as an example, have had a falling out. Your sure to make friends again in the near future.

As children get a bit older there is then the challenge of meeting a member of the opposite sex. We all know the problems and strains that this can bring. At this time I think it is just a matter of being there for your children and getting them through these difficult years the best and easiest way possible.
