Some Creative Ways To Bond With Your Children

Parenting No Comments »

It’s not always easy to bond with your kids or to find things you can enjoy doing together. Many kids seem to be obsessed with watching television shows and playing computer games. This article will hopefully be able to help you in finding something you can enjoy participating in together.

Lots of children wish that they could play an instrument, just like their favorite rock and pop stars. Ask your kid about what they’d like to learn and encourage them by purchasing the instrument for them. If they want to learn guitar, an Alvarez acoustic guitar may be a good choice, since they are quite affordable and come in a range of shapes and sizes.

Learning alongside your kid is a great way to bond with one another. If your child is learning how to play guitar, you can buy yourself an affordable dreadnought acoustic guitar. These types of guitars are great for adults and produce a very nice warm tone. This will make learning much more fun, since your guitar will sound great naturally.

You can also bond with your kid by playing sports with them. You don’t need to be athletic or amazing at the sport to do this. Chances are, your child will simply enjoy competing with you. Play a sport you both enjoy and try not to be competitive.

Artistic activities are also a great way to have fun together and bond. If either of you are really good with computers or electronic circuitry, try making electronic artworks, such as light displays or interactive art. Alternatively, you can paint or make a collage together.

Scrapbooking is another great thing you can do together. This allows you and your child to be creative, while also documenting your memories. While you are scrapbooking, you can talk about all the things that you have done and the things that you hope to do. Making a scrapbook is a great way for you to open up to each other and share stories.

If you have younger children, you might want to buy them a Disney scrapbook that included their favorite Disney characters. These are easy to find and some come with special Disney stickers. Disney themes for albums can also be printed from designs found online.

It’s not always easy to find an activity your kids will enjoy doing with you. Find out what they like and then do that with them. It’s always great when you can both learn and be creative together.

Reforms Make It Harder To Give Credit Cards To College Students

Children No Comments »

Due to the latest credit card alterations that are starting up next year, card issuers will have a strenuous time getting teenagers on college campuses to apply for credit cards without their parents’ knowledge. As students arrive on campus, card issuers will be there to meet them at many schools.

“Issuers will try to continue to market to college students between now and the time the legislation takes effect,” said Bill Hardekopf, chief executive of LowCards.com, a site that tracks cards. That means schooling them to budget and handle a checkbook and debit card in advance to having a credit card.

Card issuers main target goal are young adults because people tend to be attached to their first card, said Christine Lindstrom, U.S. Public Interest Research Group’s higher-education program director. Plus, young adults are more expected to carry revolving debt and pay late, creating more interest and fees for the card issuers, she said.

Card issuers also will necessitate a co-signers approval to increase credit limits of a cardholder younger than 21. And issuers won’t be permitted to offer T-shirts or trinkets to entice students. Some credit experts say students need a card to start building a credit history and score.

But there’s no need to rush this, and it can backlash if students mismanage cards. Young adults should worry less about their credit score and focus more on regulating good financial habits between ages 16 and 21, said Craig Watts, a spokesman for FICO, the company that created a broadly used credit score. “The credit score will take care of itself,” he says.

A survey published in April by Sallie Mae suggests that many young adults aren’t adept managers of credit. Undergraduates on average carried record card debt of $3,173, or 46 percent more than four years earlier.

Various schools, out of concern for students, don’t grant marketers to pitch cards on campus. After a few years of living on their own, paying bills and managing credit, they can apply for a credit card under their own name when they turn 21. Never co-sign, advises Janet Bodnar, author of “Raising Money Smart Kids.” Besides, she added, students are more likely to learn money skills if responsible for their own debt.

Barking Dogs Deter Intruders

Family No Comments »

Dogs are a great deterrent to crime. I had one actually save my life once, or at least save me from being attacked by an early morning would-be intruder. I like to believe she saved my life.

Sometimes a dog’s bark is worse than his bite, so they say. However, most intruders looking to break into a home to rob or attack will not venture inside if they hear the bark of a dog. Deep bark, yappy bark - it doesn’t matter. Just the noise is enough to scare someone off.

Invaders of a home don’t want to be noticed. They don’t want a barking dog running over to them to pinpoint their whereabouts to the home owners.

I have a sweatshirt that says “when God created dog, He just sat down and smiled”. He had to. He put a part of Himself in every dog - to love us, forgive us, bond with us, lead us through blindness, and even to protect us. I know I have to smile when I think of how Venus, my German Shepherd of so long ago, scared off an assailant with her bark.

But not everyone is suited to own a dog. Maybe your lifestyle just can’t support the needs of a dog, but you would like unwanted visitors to think you have a dog in the house. There really are devices out there that will do just that.

One such product is called a Barking Dog Alarm System. It uses an electronic radar-wave sense control, which lets it detect motion through wood, brick, glass, even cement. When it detects an intruder within it’s range, it begins barking like an angry dog! No intruder is going to hang around to see if it is a real dog or not.

Of course the advantages of having an electronic barking dog rather than a live barking dog are in the long term cost. You pay a one time up front fee for the electronic dog. It may seem a little spendy, but compare it to a real live dog. You don’t have to buy food, pay for vet bills, have it groomed or board it when you’re out of town. In fact, you can leave town knowing that your electronic dog will be guarding your home until you return.

Having to purchase batteries occasionally for the electronic dog is a minor investment. Your yard won’t be torn up, you won’t have to buy a pooper scooper, and you won’t have to take it out in the rain for it’s necessary exercise. The Electronic Barking Dog may be just the thing for you if you are not a dog lover or can’t have a real one in your life right now. And if you don’t want the dog barking, you can switch it to an alarm or a chime. It is just another way to provide protection for your home and your family in these trying times when crime is everywhere.

I still think dogs are the best deterrent of all. But then, a German Shepherd named Venus did save my life once.

All Those Hopeful Breakthroughs And Pre-Diabetes

Family No Comments »

Did you read about it? Apparently there is a relationship between dolphins and diabetes. It turns out dolphins utilize the diabetic state to survive famine. Not famine literally, but long periods without food. It’s all new so there are no answers yet.

The discovery that dolphins can turn on a diabetic state at will when it needs to, and turn it off when it is unuseful has prompted scientists to investigate how the dolphin does it. Obviously access to an on and off switch, be it biochemical or genetic, would be invaluable to clinicians.

How could you not be filled with hope when scientists uncover such a potentially powerful treatment for a such a damaging disease? The likelyhood of it actually turning into something is very small.

Why throw cold water on a potential find of this value? There is no need to denegrate hope unless of course it is false hope. Here are two things that could make it a false hope.

If you are more mature you can see the point here. Hope blooms eternal around every so called breakthrough in sicience. Most by far, quickly end up in the graveyard of hopes. Over fourty years ago a chemical was discovered in astronaut blood which could aid weight loss almost effortlessly. Hope filled the hearts of the weighed challanged crowd. So, as you look around you and see no overweight people anymore, you know how well that turned out.

A large number of scientists count on grant money to continue their research. Trends and hot topics tend to be the driving force for grant distribution. If you have a potentially hot topic you need to get the word out - right?

Scientist who work for corporations know they are just as responsible for generating excietment around a new product idea as they are inventing or discoving them.

I don’t know if anyone has actually counted the number of newstories about breqkthrough ideas appearing in the press each month, it has to be enormous. When the dolphin and diabetes story hit the news, the same day, there were two stories about breakthrough drugs and diabetes, and the hope they held.

The message here is that hope stories should not weaken your resolve to do what you can do about your present problem with pre-diabetes or diabetes. Weight loss and exercising may seem just too simplistic to bother with compared to a future drug or treatment - still, it is a proven treatment and the other is not.

How about some old fashioned straight talk about prediabetes anddiabetic news #1

Take A Hike And Improve Your Health

Parenting No Comments »

If you find yourself tense from stress on a regular basis, one of the quickest ways to find a less stressful life. You are able to get away from the office for a mini vacation that may only take an afternoon. This type of stress reliever can be of great benefit for a man’s health.

If you want to start hiking, you will find that there is little equipment that is needed. In the winter, you will need warm clothing. Much of the spring through the fall you may find that shorts or jeans and a t-shirt work just fine for clothing. If you plan to hike in the rain, you will want to have a set of good quality rain gear.

Every hiker will tell you that if you are going to get off the beaten path, you need some sturdy hiking boots. Leather brown boots give protection to your feet and ankles in rough terrain. In addition, if you live in snake country, sturdy boots can prevent a bite from a poisonous snake.

Some hikers enjoy the sport because it is a way to lose track of time. However, if you want to avoid a walk in the dark, you need to at least have a men’s sport watch to know when you should head back to your vehicle. These watches are both beautiful and functional. They not only work in the woods, but can be worn to a casual dinner and are appropriate at many workplaces. If you choose a waterproof watch you do not have to worry about the effects of the rain.

Often it only take a couple of afternoons per month spent hiking through some of your favorite places in order to keep you recharged and able to get more accomplished during the rest of your time. As you benefit from the stress relief of hiking on a regular basis, you may see such health benefits like lower blood pressure and fewer headaches. The benefits are certainly worth the investment of your time.

The sport of hiking is one that can be enjoyed by almost everyone. In many places there are trails that are even wheelchair accessible. Hiking is a great way for mom, dad, the kids and grandma and grandpa to spend some time together for family bonding.

After a long hike in the woods you are going to be ready for a more relaxed sleep. Head home for a warm shower and put on your Nautica sleepwear. It is time for a good night’s sleep.

School Logos: Are They Important?

Parenting No Comments »

I know for a fact that there are many schools, universities and colleges that have really bad looking logos. You see it all the time and it just makes you think of the school in the wrong way even though it could in fact be one of the best schools in the area. So why are school logos so important, would it stop you from taking your child to the school or are they all just a load of old nonsense?

Well a good logo design just shows off the first impressions of the school, if you are interested in taking one of your children to the school then the first thing that you actually look at the logo. Many parents will not know that the first thing that they will see when looking into a school is the logo, this can be very important for first impressions. Although for most people it really doesn’t matter what the logo looks like it could be an early sign that the school really isn’t that great.

I have seen a fantastic looking logo at a school that many people at first would think it looked a bit poor. The school actually managed to get a lot of the children together and for their art classes they asked them to design a logo. Although the logo wasn’t of the best design in the world it actually shows the parents that the school cares for the kids and that it is their school. The great thing about all of this was that they only needed to hire a professional for a day or so rather than a massive period of time. A school will only receive so much budget in one year and to save a bit of money they took on this idea.

So the next time you are looking to take your child to their next school, try not to pay too much notice to the logo, although the school will have fancy business logos you need to go inside the school and meet all of the teachers before you know for sure if it is just the logo that is poor or the entire school itself.

Child Support Laws and the History

Parenting No Comments »

Child support can be traced back to the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In the young ages of the nineteenth century, the United States courts that handled cases of marital breakdowns and divorce, discovered that the present laws did not provide for a support action. The United States had inherited many of the English laws in that time, and those laws discovered  that a father had a non-enforceable duty to support his children. In fact, English precedents forbade and third party from recovering that cost of support unless the cost was pre-approved by a notarized letter with the father. In 1601, The Elizabeth Poor Law authorized local parishes to claim some of the funds they spent while caring for the custodial parent and their children who were not taking care of by the non-custodial parent. But this statue would only be prevailed on the mother and her children if they were extremely poor.

Child Support becomes the law
Child support continued to develop into the early 1900's. In 1950, the United States Congress pass the first federal child support enforcement legislation having state welfare agencies to inform the appropriate enforcement officials when it became necessary to provide aid to parents with children who had no support by the other parent. In 1975 , Child Support saw big changes, not just for the collection of support, but also for child support enforcement. The Social Security Act, was signed into law on the 4th of January 1975. In 1984, the next big year for child support laws, when the Child Support Enforcement Amendments were established, requiring improvements in state and local enforcement programs. First, every state in America were required to develop income withholding from all non-custodial parents paying child support. States were also allowed to report any delinquent parents to consumer credit agencies if they were past due  on their payments.
