Our bathroom sink is something we use everyday, it’s no wonder then that it experiences the occasional clog. Water backing up into the sink is usually the main indicator that our sink is clogged. Many things can cause a clog, these include: Excessive hair, dried toothpaste and other debris large enough to cause a blockage.
What measures can we take to rid ourselves of the nasty clog? It is easy to call a plumber and fix this problem but you know that getting help nowadays is really expensive. What you want to do is to clean up this mess on you own. Actually, it’s very simple.
If you have decided to do the unclogging on your own, you have to follow simple steps so you won’t end up in a bigger disaster.
* Before the sink can be unclogged you need to find out what type of clog it is. Check if the clogging is partial or total. Knowing this will help you find the right solution for your problem.
* Unclogging a partial or minor clog is easiest. A clog of this type is the results from soft or greasy matter building up. In this case the only thing you need is either hot water or industrial drain cleaner, which is used to dissolve the clog.
* You can help unclog the drain with a plunger as well.
* Do not use hot water if your clog is a complete or total clog. A harsher treatment might be necessary to fight this type of clog. Removing the section of the drainage system known as the u-trap may be a good solution. It connects the sink’s drain to the pipe which goes into the wall. Debris often get trapped in this area. Clean the u-trap using a wire to push out the debris.
* If this still does not work you will have to use a drill snake to remove the clog. The drill snake’s ability to work through piping makes it an effective clog removal tool.
Unclogging bathroom sinks is an easy job but it is always better to keep your sink clean to prevent the clogging.
