When a couple gets engaged they often have a party to celebrate the event. This can be planned by the couple or often even by the families of the bride or groom and a gift to the celebrating couple.
When it is time to invite people to the party you can either send out printed or handwritten invitations or just call people on the phone. Do not mention the purpose of the party when you are inviting your guest though. They may already know what the party is for but make an appoint not to mention it in the invitation.
Not mentioning the purpose of the party does not put a feeling upon your guests that they need to bring a gift. Making them obligated to bring a gift can be viewed as just plain rude and cause bad feelings for everyone.
The host of the party most commonly gives an announcement toast to the couple which turns out to be a surprise to most of the guests. The choice of what kind of party to be thrown is entirely up to those planning the event. It can be anything from a cocktail party to a barbeque to an elegant dinner.
Another idea is to have a small lunch or tea party for the bride-to-be. In attendance should be the mothers of the bride and groom, family members, the wedding party and close friends. This is sometime a very good alternative to an elegant dinner party.
An important thing to remember is that this party is about new beginnings, good futures, happy thoughts and best wishes. Unlike a wedding every detail of the engagement party doesn’t have to be fretted over. All l you have to do is have a good time and share your happiness with loved ones.
You also don’t want to go to huge expense with this party because you are going to accumulate quite the bills with the rehearsal dinner and wedding itself. Unless you call off the engagement at the party nothing bad is going to happen.
Just have fun and don’t stress out. Save the stress for the wedding.
