I’m here to tell you, my head was itching so badly that all the white flakes on my shoulders from scratching would have had Bing Crosby singing I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas if he got within ten feet of me. And to make matters worse I could literally see my hair thinning before my eyes.

So, I go to my doctor and ask is there anything and I mean anything at all you can give me to keep my hair in? And of course Mr. Smart Aleck hands me a shoe box. Yeah right, thanks a lot.

What’s the deal with me and Doctors anyway? I mean 10 years ago I’m having my vasectomy. No joke I’m laying out on the table he’s cutting away, I’m as nervous as a cat that just jumped off a roof into the middle of a dog pound. The next thing I know I see smoke wafting from my privates and he says oops! Of course it was just a joke, but I’m telling you, at the time it was not funny.

So as you likely guessed my heads itching like stinking mad. I’m literally scouring the internet, going to health food stores calling anyone who even looks like they might know something, trying to find a solution any solution.

Why? Because if you have itchy scalp you know exactly what I was going through. It can darn near drive you nuts at times. And as you know it always seems to itch at the worst times possible. Like when you’re on your first date with someone you think might actually have potential. Or at a big time Job interview for a job you actually would like to have. Of course, that’s when it decides to itch.

You know what I mean, when the itching starts you could care less you just want it to stop, you just want to find a solution and make it stop right now.

Plus me being a guy I sure a s heck don’t want to lose my hair on top of it. Of course my loving wife was very nurturing and reassuring about the whole thing. She said “oh don’t worry if you go bald we’ll just sell all your turtle neck sweaters at our next garage sale”. Of course I bought into it hook line and sinker and replied “why would we do that?” And her retort “so you don’t look like a big roll on deodorant”

With her comment in my hind pocket I knew I was near whit’s end and needed a solution that actually worked.

My research led me to the conclusion that my problem was actually caused by the inflammation from all the chemicals that were in my shampoo & conditioner that I was already using. 2. BHA, BHT, and Ethoxyquin are BAD preservatives, linked to liver and kidney damage. If your dog food uses them, you could be poisoning your dog. Look for natural preservatives, such as Vitamin E (tocopherols) and Vitamin C (ascorbic acid).

3. Since ingredients are listed by weight, a dog food with a lot of one ingredient (especially one that is not a quality ingredient, for example, corn) is allowed to be broken into different parts and listed separately. For example, you might see corn flour, corn bran, and corn gluten meal all listed somewhere in the dog food ingredients list – yet they are all derived from corn. Why not just say corn? Why break them up? Because the weight of the individual components will weigh less, so they can go further down the ingredient list, making them look like they are not a key component of the dog food. Sneaky? Yes. Underhanded? Yes. Legal? Yes.

4. Listing just a meat as a top 2 ingredient. If the actual meat is listed (i.e. chicken) , and not a meat meal (i.e. chicken meal), then the meat is weighed with all moisture in tact. Meal, on the other hand, has most of the moisture removed first. Therefore, the amount of protein in one pound of chicken will be less than in one pound of chicken meal. Keeping the moisture in the meat makes it weigh heavier, keeping it in the beginning of the dog food ingredients list.

So you really do need to read and understand your dog food ingredients label to figure out your dog food. You might be surprised to find out your current food is garbage, or that it is a fantastic food for your beloved pet. Whatever you do, though, don’t look at the dog food packaging. Instead, look at the actual ingredients label. The bag may say it is made with fresh chicken and vegetables, but a look at the ingredients list will tell you the truth.
